Hello,

These questions are in regards to the 1/8" output jack that is present on the Rev. D version of the AP-8.

I have read here that this jack can be used to connect to a line input on a stereo...but is the connection a line level output or is it a speaker level output?  Is the jack connected via a resistor in relation to the speaker terminal output jacks, or is the jack connected in parallel with the speaker terminals.

Next, is the jack a mono connection (1/8" tip/sleeve) or is it it stereo (1/8" tip/ring/sleeve)?

Thank You.

We suggest that you use the AP-8 in the LO setting and adjust the volume port for line level output -- we find about 1/4 volume is about right.  We realize that this is a simplified solution; we did it to help home builders that tend to use amplified computer speakers in their props.

Hello Jon,

I actually was going to use it for the speaker out.  I wanted to get a feel for the volume levels.  If they were too low, then I would use an amplifier.  But, I got lucky yesterday.  I found a special set of Walkman speakers in my junk pile that could be used both amplified and non-amplified.  This is GREAT because I can test the AP-8 both ways now.  I am right now doing unamplified tests.

The jack plugged straight in and I got sound out of both speakers.  So that means the jack is a 1/8" TRS and more than likely wired in parallel to the output terminals.

The volume is pretty low in the #1 position, even with the volume on max.  But it is loud enough for background ambient tracks.  Now in the #2 position, the volume really come up nicely.   I recorded screams, moans and such and even my wife came into the room to find out what was up! LOL  AND these are only two 4" speakers.  I could only imagine what a high efficiency 12" speaker would do :o.

Overall I am pretty surprised at the sound quality.  It does sound pretty good...even good enough for ambience.  But mostly I am going to use it for short voice tracks, for that scream in the face, or a loud bang or thump.

I figured I would have problems setting it up, but no.   Everything worked fine the first time out! I did read the documentation several times though and I used one of your programs as a template (it was one that calls the audio in a subroutine so I can easily add it to any program that I want to have sound with).   Needless to say, I am having a ball with it.

This is a great piece and I am curious if you are going to make one that can record longer in the future.  If you do, I would definitely buy it.

FAN-TAS-TIC.  Would you have an estimated time of release?
