I am building several control boxes for a friend's haunted house.  Some of the boxes get pretty tight after installing all the components.  One of the obstacle I ran into was leaving enough room for the three to four inch long programmer and USB cable.

I found a motherboard 3 prong fan extension cable in one of my desk drawers and modified it slightly to use as an extension cable between the programmer and the Prop-1.  It works great.  I no longer have to worry about forcing the programmer through all the cables and such the control box.

I attached a picture.

I tough of doing that with a servo extension cable and a male .100 header myself, since I had similar problem like you had for my Solar Charger project (posted in competed projects) I did several years ago. But, never got around in doing it.

BTW, let me welcome you to the forums if no one has done so already.
