Can I do serial communication on the p6 connector of the trainer?

Just wondered if I can leave the trainer on to do serial communication.   I assume the answer is yes, but I don't want to blow anything out ;-).  I have built a little board that should attach to one of the pin groups and pull power from the Prop-1 (actually 2 but I figured this applies to both) and feed the serial signal to the signal input.  This should be all right right?

IE:

white serial signal
red    +5 volts of my circuit
black  ground of my circuit
On the trainer top connector.

You can if you're VERY careful.  Don't press the button while using SEROUT on P6 with the trainer installed (this will cause a short between P6.W and P6.B).  Yes, there is a resistor that protects the BS1 I/O pin, but you don't want to take a chance.  Also, you'll need to remove pin 2 of the ULN2803 (or pin 1 of the ULN2003) so that the ULN doesn't interfere with SEROUT.  See this thread for an illustration:
