Jon or John,

Do you know if the Prop-1 can be reprogrammed in the field using the Stamp Stache through a BS1 Serial Adaptor?  Sounds to me like it should work since the adaptor is fairly passive, but I'd like to confirm it before I purchase the Stamp Stache.

Thank you,

Tim

Edit:  I find myself using quite a few Prop-1's in simple industrial applications and I'd love to use a Stamp Stache for programming changes rather than lug my laptop around.

You should check with Dr. Tracy Allen at www.emesystems.com (the coolest doctor you'll ever know) as he created the Stache.  I believe, however that the answer is going to be "No."  Back in the DOS days the BS1 editor could create an image file (called code.obj) of your program.  In fact, I used this file to create a program called "Stamp Size" to examine actual contents of the memory which Parallax later incorporated into the editors as the Memory Map function.  Sadly, the Windows editor does not support the BSAVE feature of the BS1 language and I don't know that they've made a downloading spec for the BS1 available.  The DOS version is still around, and I think it allows for command line switches so it could be used as a slave of another application.

I'm contracted to write a book for Parallax -- once that's finished I'll ask them for the BS1 downloading spec (they're antsy for the book, so I'm not asking for any favors at the moment) and maybe we can come up with something that uses the Prop-SX to become a BS1 Stache....

Thanks for the background Jon...  I know that Tracy Allen is the creator of the Stache and one of the sharpest minds out there.  Even when Tracy gives examples, I can't keep up enough to use them.  I remember him helping many people in the early Parallax e-mail based forum days and through to today.  I'm sorry to hear that the Stache is not directly Prop-1 compatable as we know it.  I really appreciate your thoughts on the possibility of an SX based Prop Stache and I'll look for progress while packing the laptop along. :)
