I'm working on an animated dog prop that is using PIN7 for serial communication and PIN6 for a PIR.  I have several other PINs free, but I'm not sure what I can do with them.

In case it matters, I want to add some small ability to manually control the behaviour of the dog for special guests (people that really need a good scare or people that really can't take a good scare).  Adding a couple of switches seemed like the easiest way to do that but I would be open to any other suggestions as well.

Thanks,
Chris.

You can use any of the other pins as active-high inputs.  Connect a normally open switch between Px.W and Px.R.  The ULN input acts like a pull-down and will keep the pin low (0) when the switch/button is open.

Thanks.  As you say, just putting a switch on an pin works perfectly.  For which I say: thanks for answering questions from people who completely miss the obvious...  And being nice about it!
