Hookin it up...

OK maybe I'm an idiot but, I don't know how to hook this thing up...My program works great with the trainer, but how do I make the hook up inputs and out puts. In my fantasy world I want to use a 12 volt battery - input. Then power normal 12 volt led fog lights on the output. Does that work. I have connector for the p-inputs, but I'm lost from there. By the way I'm using the random lightning program. Thanks... Ben

Have you download the docs? -- we have a graphic on page 4 that shows typical connections.

OK Johnny, just to double check. power to  W or R,  ground to B or to the gnd on the output strip. Jumper in down position, positive output off respective output (01, 02) , gnd output ?, Do I need to use the uln for this? Then the switch is on 2 I assume. I appreciate your help.

JonnyMac

No, no, no -- why would that diagram give you the impression that you can connect your power input to the W (which goes right to the processor causing you to kill it) or R (right to the power supply output causing a big puff of blue smoke) terminals?

Okay, just tell me what you want to connect -- and be very specific about it.  Use a bullet list, not a long run-on sentence.  Keep in mind that I can't see what you have so you have to be my eyes.  Once we're on the same page you're going to find this very easy.

Sorry Johnny, Pretty limited electrical diagram experience.....

Power supply for lights....12 volt car battery Where does that get hooked up to the prop 1

Could I use that same 12v to power the  Prop-1?

jumper set where?

uln needed?

Output hooked up where? positve and negative or just switching the positve?

Output to power l.e.d. car fog lights

The reason I'm using car batteries and car fog lights is, this is going to set away from any ac power, on a walk, kind of like portable lightning.

JonnyMac

What is the current rating on the fog light?  If it's less than 500ma and that's the only output you're going to be running then you're okay.

Power:
The positive (red) side of the battery goes to V+, the negative (black) goes to GND.  Note: If you connect the battery backward you will destroy the Prop-1.  Be careful.

LED Lamp:
Connect the positive side to V+ and the negative side to OUT0.

If you'll post your code I'll make sure there are not "gotchas" waiting to spring into action.

Johnny I got nothing... The program is yours ... the lightning pause.
I hooked positive power to v+
... neg to neg...
Fog light positive to v+
...fog light neg to out 1.
I don't know if the fog light is 500 ma or less (no specs)
Should the switch be on 1?
Need the uln?
Maybe I should just opt for regular strobe lights...

BigRez

Switch needs to be in position 2 to get power to the OUTs.  Does the tiny red LED light up next to the V+ ?  If not, then either the switch isn't in position 2, there is no power supply plugged into the prop-1, or the board is bad.

JonnyMac

Sorry, BigRez is correct: you must have the power switch in position 2 in order to make the connection between the V+ terminal (no serving as power input) and the upstream side of the 5v regulator.  I apologize for leaving out that detail.

As usual THANK YOU GUYS!  Everthing works great, I wound up going to a regular high output led light instead of the fog light. I really appreciate your patients with someone who isn't that electrically savvy. When I buy an EZ-8 will that be the same hookups?

JonnyMac

Glad you got it working.  And now... ask EZ-8 questions in an EZ-8 thread; topic switching mid stream is a no-no.   >:(
