I noticed that there is software for Macs on Paralax's site, the MacBS2. Will this work with the Prop1?

No, it's for the BS2 only.  Parallax never released a cross-platform tool or DLL for the BS1.  Most have had success running the BASIC Stamp editor under emulation, but as Windows users we really don't know anything about that stuff.
