Hi all

Can i use pinball rollover switchs to trigger sounds using the AP-16+ Audio Player . Would it be ok to have  say the left lane roller switch play one sound , right play and different one and so on .

Im new here and im about to purchase  the AP-16+ Audio Player , im willing to learn etc . But can i trigger seperate tracks , if so how many . Is there any holes in my plan , do i need extra bits n bobs if so what ?

Any input would be a huge help .

Thanx for you time

Regards

You can use any normally open switch to trigger a sound file. There are provisions for 8 different sound effects that can be triggered with 8 switches.
Go here and download the PDF docs. It explains everything you need to know about the AP-16+.

With parallel inputs you're limited to the (the AUXnn files).  Or... you could use a separate processor to scan your inputs and then send a serial command to play the file of your choice.  In either case, the new request pre-empts any file presently playing.

Ozzycriss,
I think a separate processor to scan your inputs would be the better way to go. By doing this, the separate processor can send the input data serially to the AP-16 and doing, this gives you access to more sound files that is on the SD card.

Thanx fellows for all the input .

i,m  keen to learn and have time but know very little about Seperate processors and the whole process of the AP-16+. What would you recommend as a seperate processor. We only need to have 8 switchs play the speech files .

I,m going to read the PDF and read all the posts here as a start , do you have any futher reading that you feel would be a good start to learning .

The ambient loop control ( Background music ) Stops and will kick back in after a switch is triggerd , ( after that file has played )  .

The project we want to undertake is a worn out DMD  pinball machine that we want to re theme to Hammer horror or Planet of the apes .  We want to add speech when  the rollover switchs are engaged  , add art to the playfield etc . I know the Efx-Tek gear is used in the halloween community but after reading your site thought its perfect for a pinball machine project as well .

Thanx again

I have an old pinball machine from 1980's called "Stingray" made by Stern and more then 8 inputs are used and they are multiplex back to the MPU board that controls which chimes are played. I don't know how long each of your sounds are on the SD card.

What I am getting at, is when a sound is triggered by one of your playfield switches and re-triggered that same switch connected to the AP-16 INx within 2 seconds. What I am saying is, when AP-16 plays a sound for IN1, it will play the whole file and when another input is trigger while IN1 is playing it will be stopped and start playing that other sound for that input. I hope this gives an idea how the AP-16 plays the sound files when using the AUX inputs.

Quoteseparate processor can send the input data serially to the AP-16
What, I mean by this statement is which controller can be used, a Prop1 (Basic Stamp 1 core processor), Prop2 (Basic Stamp 2 core processor) or a PropSX(SX core processor)

If you only have 8 inputs plus an ambient track that plays between sounds then you can use the AP-16+ in stand-alone mode.  You will use the AUX inputs and your audio files will be AUX01.WAV - AUX08.WAV.  AMBIENT.WAV will be the background track (plays when no triggered sound is active).

Be sure to read the docs carefully, and make sure you have a proper power supply.
