What is SX?

The SX is a super-fast PIC-like micro that we use in most of our products.  It's really very much like the old PIC16C56 but WAY faster which allows you to do a lot of really cool stuff in the ISR (the SX community calls the "virtual peripherals").  Some PIC users don't like the SX because it's very simple and has nearly zero add-on hardware (UARTs, ADCs, etc.).  My problem with the PIC series is that there are way to darned many of them and learning one doesn't always help when learning another.  And once you really get happy with a given flavor Microchip ups and drops it!

Our products that use the SX: AP-8/16, DC-16, FC-4, RC-4, EZ-8.  All were programmed in a mixture of SX/B (free BASIC compiler from Parallax that I helped design) and SX Assembly.  You can find some SX demos (for our Prop-SX controller) here:
