Just thought everyone should see this:

It looks like a uMP3 player for half the cost. Of course, I don't know how well it's supported, but I thought I'd throw it out there for consideration.

Scaring someone with a prop you built -- priceless!

I've been lead to believe that we'll see a new, lower-cost version of the uMP3 from Rogue -- if they hit the $50 price point I'd got that way as they're known, and their product supports serial at 2400 baud (the Sparkfun device is just 38.4k) so you can use it with the Prop-1.

I totally agree. I just bought a uMP3 at the discount price using the boo42 code. That would be cool if Rogue came out with one at $50. Your right, the sparkfun audio board would only work with Prop-2 or Prop-SX communications.

Don't forget the second part of that BOO42 promotion... enter their contest by building a prop utilizing the uMP3, send them a video/blog of the prop and they'll send you a second uMP3 for FREE!   The deadline to order the uMP3 is the 9/30/09 (I believe) and you must send an email requesting to be entered.

Jon,

Silly question to ask I know, but...  Any feel for time-line on the new version uMP3 from Rogue?

Thanks,

Tim

You'd have to ask them -- they were not specific with me.

Thanks Jon, will do.  I ask because answers from Rogue have been very slow for me in the past and I thought you may have more of an "in" with them.

JonnyMac

No.  I'm a customer like you are, and in fairness to EFX-TEK, we cannot speak for, or provide tech support for any other vendor.  All we can do is support out own product and provide the best information we can when connecting to product from other vendors.

Jon, that's understood and goes without saying.

I have an inquiry into the folks at Rogue about a possible new version of the uMP3 and will let you know what I hear back.

I appreciate your understanding but had to "say it" out loud as one customer got very upset with me for not providing detailed technical support for VSA.

I did contact Erik at Rogue today and all he could share is that the new uMP3 module will be announced in mid-October to coincide with the BOO-for-two contest.  Those entered in the contest will have the option of receiving he new module as their free second uMP3 device.  New features and pricing cannot be shared at this time.

Tim-M

Thanks the news bigrez, mid-October is not far away at all and it will be fun to see what they've come up with.

Well they didn't make mid-October and in fact didn't make the announcement until after Halloween.  Their new product, the rMP3, is available now.  I do see some new features, many available for the existing uMP3 with a firmware update, but disapointed to see the price of both the uMP3 and rMP3 remain the same.
