My old computer that I was using to program my boards finally died (suddenly).  I am having to reinstall the Basic Stamp Editor on a Windows 8.1 64 bit machine.  When I run the program from Parallax, it is hanging on the installation of the USB drivers.  Anyone experience this before?

Did you get the latest editor editor code from Parallax? I was running it on Win 8.1 without problems (until an accident destroyed that computer....).

I did get the latest and greatest this morning, which I confirmed with Parallax tech support.

You might try right-clicking and Running As Administrator. I had a finicky app under Win 8.1 that worked fine after I did that.  Beware: I am not a Windows guru.  It may be best to contact Parallax tech support on this.  I'll ask, too.

Thanks.  That got me farther.  Now the COM port shows invalid.  At least I think its progress.

JackMan

Not sure if you tried this already but with the editor open, click "help" at the top, click on "Basic Stamp help". There's some info there under "Invalid Port" and "USB Drivers".

Spooky Dad

Thanks Jackman.  I had already found that.  The COM port being disabled wasn't my issue.
