VMusic2 with Prop-2 question

Jon,

If the Prop-2 is only playing one file from the VMusic, do I need to still have feedback from the Vmusic to the Prop-2? I followed Garage of Evil's instructions on the VMusic cable manipulation and only have 3-pin connector from VMusic to Prop-2. I can snip another cable and do the other conncetion if this is still necessary.

Also, I noted in other threads that you mentioned snipping ULN pin for the VMusic. Is that true in every case?

Think of it this way: We created these products and understand how they interact with other devices.  Would we tell you something to waste your time?  No, of course not.  The way that I suggest you do things is how I do things for myself and guess what?  My projects always work!   ;)   If they didn't, would you and others keep asking me for code?...   ;D

I know that without fully understanding all the implications that some things I suggest you do -- that others don't and have at times gotten away with -- may seem unnecessary.  My goal is to get your projects working the first time, every time, and ALL THE TIME.  I tend to do things in what I sincerely believe is the right way, which not may not always seem to be be the easiest way.

You can of course simply use a TX line to the VMUSIC player but then you don't know if it's ready or has accepted a start command -- you're forced to use grunt level coding of hard delays and simply hope that it's out there working.  If you're okay with that, then fine.

Yes, always snip the ULNs and use pins that have SETUP jumpers (in the UP position) on them.  Why?  Because a low input on the TX line looks like a bit to the VMUSIC player and it will stop what it's doing and the ULN pulls the line low if it's not being driven high by the BS1 IO line.  If you forget to put in an appropriate pause and your program ends, that line with drop and cause the VMUSIC to stop in its tracks when you may not want it to.

Thanks for your help. I'll certainly abide by any recommendation you have. Wasn't sure if this pin clipping was ubiquitous or just specific for his program. I'll get out the scalpel, gown and gloves................

The ULN mods are required for serial operations and POT operations.  The input circuitry of the ULN has a detrimental effect on these functions and must be eliminated.
