The easiest thing to "fix" the problem is to pop over to RadioShack and pick up a couple 12v relays -- I think they have them.  Use the relays and the original program to switch your low-voltage accessories.

Yeah, the Solid State Relay's will only work with AC. A regular relay will let you switch both.

Radio Shack has this one that would work:

Scaring someone with a prop you built -- priceless!

I'm using external power sources (3vdc and 9vdc).  Why couldn't I just use the OUT connections on the Prop-2 to basically just make a switch?

JonnyMac

You can; you'll have to connect the ground side of your DC supplies to the GND terminal of the Prop-2.  The positive side of your DC supplies should only connect to the devices.

so I have a device with it's own 3vdc power.  Connect the neg from the battery holder to the GND terminal, then ??? back to the device?

As for the relay, how would we go about wiring it up? (not an electronic expert here :) and then what would be the difference between the two options?

Thanks for your time and patience!!!

The diagram below show connections for using the ULN to switch your external power supplies and for using a relay (only one relay is shown, you need two).  The difference is that the ULN has a slight voltage drop across it that may effect your very low voltage device.  You'll have to try.

Everything is working perfectly!  The only issue I am having is that one of the LED's on the spotlight is on.  In fact, the V+ LED on the Prop-2 board is lit with the Cocoon or the Spot.

Not a big deal, as everything is disconnected for the big night.

Thanks Jon!

Next time, no procrastination!!

If you're device isn't dropping the voltage you supply to that you can get a little bit of bleed through the protection diodes inside the ULN -- this will cause the V+ LED to light, usually dimly; it shouldn't be a problem.

I'm not sure what's happening with you LEDs... when the OUTx terminal is off they should be, too.
